Meditation as Remedy

The remedy beneath the remedies — the still mind in which every other practice finally lands.

What is this remedy?

Meditation (dhyana) is deliberate stillness — attention resting on breath, mantra or silence. In the remedy tradition it is the Moon's medicine above all: the practice that steadies the very instrument every other remedy works through.

Why it is traditionally used

The Moon is the mind, and most planetary complaints arrive as states of mind — fear, craving, scatter, grief. Remedies aimed outward help; meditation goes to the receiver itself. A steadied Moon improves every chart it sits in.

When it is used

Prescribed for afflicted Moons, anxious Mercury seasons, Ketu periods (whose detachment turns luminous in stillness), Sade Sati years, and honestly for every chart — the question is only the form and the dose.

How it is practised

Begin embarrassingly small: ten minutes, same time daily, breath or a simple mantra as the anchor. Moonrise and early morning are traditional hours. Pair with japa if counting helps the mind stay. Consistency, again, is the entire secret.

Who should consult before doing it

When the mind is stormy enough that sitting with it feels unsafe — grief, panic, depression deserve human support alongside practice; meditation complements care, never replaces it. A reading can also match the technique to the chart's temperament.

Common mistakes

  • Waiting for a quiet mind before starting — the practice makes the quiet
  • Marathon sessions on motivated days, nothing after
  • Harsh self-judgement, which is noise pretending to be discipline
  • Using stillness to avoid life rather than meet it

A gentle note: remedies are shared here for education, in the spirit of tradition. They support reflection and steadiness; they are not a guarantee of outcomes and never a substitute for medical, legal, psychological or financial advice. Whether a particular remedy suits you is read from your full birth chart — please consult first.

Frequently asked questions

The Moon first — meditation is its classical medicine — and by extension every planet, since all of them speak through the mind. Ketu seasons especially reward contemplative practice.
Ten honest minutes daily outranks an occasional hour. Build only when the ten are effortless.
No. It is a beautiful support and a real remedy, and it works best alongside — never instead of — professional care when the mind is truly struggling.
